Run like the wind

I’m really enjoying going to the gym.

I never thought I would say that, but it’s become a big part of my life.

Maybe because I’ve got nothing else to do until I start working, but hey, whatever keeps me ticking.

I feel fabulous, and I can definitely feel that I’m getting into better shape.

at least I look the part? Gym wear isn't sexy.

at least I look the part? Gym wear isn’t sexy.

I’ve got a long way to go, of course, but I’m getting there.

I’m being a lot healthier too – well, this week hasn’t been great, but there have been two birthdays in the house, and lots of cake. I may have had cake for breakfast, but that would be telling…

Also quit smoking, which has been wonderful and I feel a million times better since quitting. Never thought I’d say that but I couldn’t imagine going back on the fags now.

The cross trainer is my current favourite, I look like an idiot and I’m  a red sweaty mess when I come off it but hey – I’m enjoying myself.

Glad there aren’t any hotties at my gym though 😉

I just hope I can keep all this up when I start working, fight the flab.

Summer time

Well, it’s August now, and getting towards the end of Summer, I’m very well aware.

This is officially my last ‘free’ summer, because as of September 2nd, I will be a full time employee of the Cooperative Bank. How exciting!

Okay, it’s not my dream job, but I’m twenty one, and I have no money. I can’t pursue my dreams with -£800 can I?

Well, I could…

This summer isn’t turning out quite how I expected. Not a lot has been happening. I’ve got three weeks of freedom left, and I’ve not really got an awful lot to fill them with.

Last summer was probably one of the best summers of my life. I volunteered at the Olympic Games.

Me and the Copperbox VCC team.

Me and the Copperbox VCC team.

Honestly, I don’t think I could top that. It was such a rewarding experience and it felt amazing to be a part of something so big and so magical.

I’m definitely signing up to go to Rio in 2016, couldn’t think of anything better!

I also did a lot of work experience last summer, spent two weeks at a radio station in Guildford and three weeks at BBC Radio Manchester.

Also went to Reading festival, and it’s looking like that’s going to be my last festival for a good while – gutted, but maybe next year.

I can’t say this summer has been all bad, had an amazing girls holiday to Majorca in June.

Abbie and I doing it right.

The Stuttgart Six

Even with the hassle and struggle it was to get there, it was a brilliant holiday.

Plenty of sun and drinks!

It’s definitely made me want to go on another holiday like this, while I’m still young.

I also graduated this summer, which was a lovely day, albeit hot.

Three years of hard work - me and my coursemates

Three years of hard work – me and my coursemates

We’ve had a good run, and of course there are others aside from my coursemates who I’ll miss.

My gorgeous housemates, my lovely work colleagues, and the people I’ve met along the journey.

This summer is definitely important, and I shouldn’t waste it, but I know that come September, I’ll start a whole new chapter of my life.

I can’t wait.

You had me at your proper use of you’re

If there’s something I feel really strongly about, it’s got to be spelling and grammar.

A lot of people don’t think it’s important and that makes me really sad.

20130808-225749.jpg

If it’s complicated stuff I can usually get over it. No one is perfect and I know I get things wrong as well. But the simple stuff which people get wrong every day just infuriates me.

For example. ‘Your a really good friend.’ Is wrong. ‘Your’ means ‘your ball’ or ‘is that your child over there rummaging through my bins?’

I think what you really meant to say was ‘you’re a really good friend.’ Why? Because what you’re actually saying is ‘you are a really good friend.’ Which can be shortened to ‘you’re’. It’s really that simple.

Another? Okay.

‘There making a really bad decision about this.’ OH ARE THEY? Is it like the decision you made to not pay attention in school? Here, ‘there’ doesn’t work, because ‘there’ is used to show where something is, as in a verbal direction. ‘The ball is over there.’ Would be an example.

In the above sentence, you’d want to use ‘they’re’ because that is the contraction of ‘they are’.

And while we’re on the topic of this, ‘their’ in a sentence would go something like this. ‘That ball is their ball.’ The word ‘their’ signifies a possession.

I hope you’re all following me.

There are a lot of things which bother me, as you can tell. I’m going to compile a few favourites for you now in a handy and easy to remember list.

Definitely = I am definitely going to get this right next time. It’s not ‘defiantly’ or anything else. You are not ‘defiantly looking forward to the football season.’ – That just implies that you aren’t allowed to look forward to it…

Generally / genuinely gets me as well, they’re both completely different words, so how do people mix them up? It’s ‘I am genuinely looking forward to our day trip.’

Generally just implies that you’re not all that bothered, and most of the time I think you actually mean genuinely, but you just got confused along the way.

Apostrophes indicate possession for nouns (“Jim’s hat,” “several years’ work”) but not for personal pronouns (its, your, their, and whose).

Apostrophes also indicate omissions in contractions (“it’s” = “it is”) – as already covered.

In general, they are not used to indicate plurals.

This picture really helps, and outlines some things which I haven’t yet mentioned, but which still bother me.

So, that’s my pet peeve, all spelled out for you. It may not seem important to you, and you may just think ‘it’s the Internet!’ But it is important, because getting it wrong makes you look stupid.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for me really.

In my opinion, everyone should have to undergo proper testing before they’re allowed to enter chain professions. You definitely shouldn’t be allowed to teach people / be a journalist if you can’t grasp these basic rules though. Sorry, but that’s my opinion and I’m entitled to that.

I’m probably crazy, and you’re probably right about that, but it’s something I care about.

M x

Ps. If you have a genuine problem, such as dyslexia, I can let that go. Who am I to have a go at you if you genuinely can’t do it? As for the rest of you lazy sods…

Pps. I’d like to give some thanks to Sam Hill, his your / you’re video was just fantastic.

Pyramids and interviews

Well, today I had an interview. It’s not my first since finishing university, but hopefully it will be my last.

20130725-221808.jpg

The pyramid in Stockport, it’s where the job is, at the co operative banking group 🙂

It would be a great job to have, as I’ve always worked in customer service and it’s something I enjoy. You may think it isn’t the best use of a broadcast journalism degree, but that’s you and not me, and I’ll do what I like to better my skills.

I need to move out, I want to be in my own place, and not with my family.

I love them, but, I can’t do this after three years of uni.

Good luck me!

Back with a brand new rap.

I’m well aware that it’s been a really long time since I used this site. Life kinda got in the way a bit.

I’ve now finished uni, I’m all grown up.

20130724-175504.jpg

Now I’ve got the endless hunt for a job, and boy, it’s taking its sweet time.

I know, I only graduated two weeks ago, what’s the rush? Well, I’ve never been unemployed before, I can’t say I’m enjoying it all too much!

The job centre is a depressing place though, I hope I don’t have to keep going there for long…

I’ve been rejected for so many jobs and it is starting to take its toll, sleepless nights, endless worry, constantly eating cake. I don’t want this life! I want to be doing something, challenging myself, I know there’s something out there but I want it now!

I have an interview tomorrow, I’m feeling confident, but I don’t want to get my hopes up because I’ve been there before.

So, expect more posts from me, I hope you can handle it.

Lending a helping hand.

I seriously think you should consider reading my new blog, it’s not bad.

It’s for my web based journalism module as a part of my course.

Never has Maddy Ever

It’s basically me trying new things, giving things up, go on it, read it, please follow it, post comments, ideas, feedback.

I’m happy to hear what you think and what you want to see me do next. I’m probably going to try and carry it on for as long as possible because it really is a lot of fun, and it’s pushing me to do things I don’t normally do. Ever.

I’m winning right now.

This week I’m doing no social networking, so this is my sneaky way of getting around the sharing issue I’m currently having.

If you would like to share my new blog, please do. I’d really appreciate it, I might bake you a cake once I’ve got the hang of it.

Baby, baby.

This post is probably going to make me look like a scary woman. I promise I’m not (mostly)

I love babies though. They’re so cute. I don’t mean this in a creepy way, I’m not gonna kidnap one or anything.

There are a couple in my family at the mo, and they’re the most gorgeous boys I think I’ve ever seen. My Uncle and his fiancée had a baby boy in March last year, and on January 5th my cousin and his wife had a baby boy. (The one I mentioned here)

Arrrhhh! (That’s a generic female “look at that baby” noise) Aren’t they cuties?

Okay, you may not agree, and you may think I’m crazy or whatever. But I’m not. Thinking babies are cute is healthy. And they’re my family so it’s definitely allowed.

I have a big family, and there are new arrivals all the time, on my dads side I have four cousins and two step cousins, on my mums side I have four cousins and six cousins once removed. Big big big family and I hope it gets bigger! I love family though, I may complain about them a lot, or I may never mention them, but I do like the time I get to spend with them. Especially the little babbas!

Before all my male friends write me off as being a crazy bitch, I am not planning to wait until you are asleep and then steal your semen. I promise. That would just be tacky. I’d at least trick you into having sex with me, jeez.

I am definitely not ready for the responsibility of being a mother and being in complete control of another human life. I need to grow up a lot myself first.
